Professional Development & Practice

The ESSC's Professional Development and Practice (PDP) program offers students the opportunity to maximize their potential by linking education, experiential learning, research, and professional development together.
Through the ESSC's PDP program, students can enhance their professional skills by attending various workshops. The workshops offered this semester are listed on the events calendar (http://www.engr.sjsu.edu/about/events) for the college as well as the workshop tab to the left (http://www.engr.sjsu.edu/students/essc/pdp/workshops).

In addition to workshops, the ESSC offers one-on-one coaching and counseling around the topics of professional development. Drop-in hours for Professional Development counseling for the Fall 2009 semester are as follows:

Student Success Center (ENGR 344): Wednesdays 10am to 12pm and Thursdays 2pm to 4pm

Professional Development & Practice Topics that are covered through workshops and one-on-one coaching and counseling are:

  • Professional communication skills
  • Succeeding on the job
  • Ethics
  • Time management skills
  • Business etiquette
  • Leadership development
  • Stress management: balancing school and life
  • Transitioning from college to career

In addition the program works directly with the SJSU Career Center (www.careercenter.sjsu.edu) so students can integrate theory and practice, confirm career choices, and investigate potential internship/co-op and employment opportunities. Moira Srago is the Employment Specialist through the Career Center for the College of Engineering. She will have the following drop-in office hours for the Fall 2009 semester:

Career Center (MOD F): Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays 1pm to 3pm

Student Success Center (ENGR 344): Tuesdays 2:30pm to 4pm
