About Dr.
Coates
Del Coates is considered to be one of the world's most influential
industrial design teachers. Del Coates has had a long and distinguished
career as a practitioner and professor of industrial design. As
a consultant, he has advised an international list of clients.
He was a designer with For Motor Company's Advanced Vehicle Concepts
Department.
He was a member of the team that designed Herman Miller's Action
Office, the furniture system that revolutionized office landscapes.
As director of design research at GVO, a pioneer product design
and development firm in Silicon Valley, he contributed to the design
of only the second computer featured in the design collection of
New York's Museum of Modern Art. As design strategist for Nissan
Motor Company, he coined the name and concept that became Maxima.
