Preparing Students for Success@San Jose State University!

Several hundred high school and community college students, along with their parents, teachers and counselors, visited the Charles W. Davidson College of Engineering Open House on Saturday, October 31st.

The academic departments showcased their labs and delivered presentations about their majors; the College of Engineering student clubs showed their passion for engineering. Panel discussions were presented on Admissions 101, CSUMentor Lab, Basics of Financial Aid, along with a student panel: “MyExperience@SJSU”. “Parents – Got Questions?” was well received by parents and students, with faculty members (along with coffee) available to our guests for specific questions and answers. The great weather helped everyone to enjoy campus tours with the engineering students.

Some great feedback was heard from our guests:

“Wow – I did not realize there were so many choices in the engineering field – I learned so much!”

“I meet a Dept. Chair that has been mentoring me via email – I was thrilled!”

“I was a High Tech U. student who had visited the College of Engineering last summer, now I am applying at SJSU in Engineering! My brother who is in middle school and with me today, wants to get involved with engineering, and he was told that there is a middle school summer camp, wow are we excited!”

A parent – “We have so enjoyed the enthusiasm of all of the participants!”

“It was well worth the drive and getting up early to be here - we are from Sacramento.”

“Where can one receive all of this information in a “one-stop-shop” like this? Thank you, thank you College of Engineering.”

2010 Global Technology Initiative Study Tour to India

Bon Voyage to the College of Engineering, GTI 2010 Study Tour to India Group. These students have been interviewed and selected for a 2-week study tour to India. They are currently taking Tech 198 to learn all about India. These GTI scholars will be embarking on an exciting opportunity to visit many different cities and U.S. based companies in India on Jan. 2, 2010 to Jan. 16, 2010. Come listen about their experience on Feb. 5th, 2010 at the Silicon Valley Symposium in E 189 at 12:00-1:00 p.m.

CITIES: Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Agra, Delhi.

COMPANY VISITS: Microsoft, Google, Oracle, IBM, Xilinx, Nvidia, Tata Motors, Larsen Toubro, others.

CULTURAL SITES: Taj Mahal, India’s Capitol, Moghul culture in Hyderabad and others.
