On Thursday, November 17, the College of Engineering hosted its 2006 Scholarship Recognition Luncheon. Some of the College’s most talented and brightest engineering students received scholarships sponsored by many generous individuals, alumni, and corporate scholarship donors. In total, fifty-nine students were the recipients of 19 scholarships.
The scholarship sponsor speakers were Dave Purvis, Chief Technical Officer of Solectron, and Doug Munson, sponsor of the Munson Scholarships.
Dr. Bill Nance, Vice Provost of San Jose State, attended the luncheon as well and spoke to the scholarship awardees and sponsors.
Three scholarship recipients spoke about the importance of the scholarship and the role of engineering education in their lives: Alex Dunlap, Computer Engineering; Anthony Cacace, Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering; and Amber Grant, Civil and Environmental Engineering.
The scholarship sponsors’ commitment to education is invaluable, and their vision and generosity have positively influenced the community in which everyone lives. For many recipients, these scholarships enable them to focus their efforts on pursuing their education without having to worry about financial support.
The COE’s goal is to make education accessible to everyone, who has the drive and desire to pursue a rigorous course of study in engineering. To everyone who helped make this possible, from the donors and students to the COE faculty and staff, thank you!
